Chaz did not start his career in hair design, but rather, he moved into it. He began as a professional photographer who became intrigued with the way people looked in his photos, so he moved to Los Angeles and attended cosmetology school. Later, he began to specialize in coloring and styling, and he became manager of a hair salon in Bel Air.
After several years, he purchased the salon and moved it to Hollywood. Here he was able to create a unique salon that discouraged the paparazzi and provided a calm, spa-like atmosphere for his celebrity clients. It was here that he founded Wen by Chaz and began distributing his magic to the whole world.
