Rick Smith is President and the CEO of Securus Technologies. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology, having achieved an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree. He continued his educational training at the State University of New York with a Master’s degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Electrical Engineering.
During his earlier career following college, Rick worked for many years at the Frontier Corporation in varying managerial positions. From 1972 until 1998 he held a controller and chief information officer positions with Global Crossing North America Inc. Mr. Smith then worked at Eschelon Telecom, Inc. from 1998 to 2000 as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. He was promoted to prominent positions at Eschelon until Securus Technologies hired him.
Rick Smith wanted to help improve the incarceration system’s security tools to keep employees safe when necessary, to better serve the public, and to provide better communication tools for inmates to connect with their loved ones, as well as to keep abreast of the outside world’s advancements. With his background in telecommunications and technology Mr. Smith and Securus Technologies is working to toward these goals by creating the world’s largest VOIP Corrections calling platform.
